Ancient Greece: The Dark Chronicles

For this 30s Promo, Viasat World asked us to visualize the contrasting realities of Ancient Greece society - behind every advance in Democracy or Creative Arts, lurks a Dictator or Warrior.

Set within a Parisian Gallery, we watch as the clean white marble of the classical statues start to crumble and decay, revealing the dark villainous character hidden within.

Working from a mood board supplied by Viasat World Creatives Nigel Doylerush and Keith Livingstone, we focus on 3 hero statues, Democracy, Philosophy and Arts realised in Character Creator with Wardrobe created in Marvelous. The fully rigged CG character models were then quickly repose-able and given new facial expressions to match the darker characteristics of Bloodlust, Propaganda and Tyranny, ensuring Character Consistency without the need for an expensive rebuild.

The film was completed in Maya and rendered in Redshift. A combination of Houdini and Substance Painter created the extensive damage to the many statues seen in the gallery, as well as destroying the gallery itself.

With a turnaround of just 4 weeks from first meeting to delivery the clear direction and supportive feedback from client was as essential as the ability to quickly and efficiently apply that feedback within CG, while maintaining approved layouts and Art Direction.
